My name is Jason M. Worchel. Many of you know of my on-going endeavor known as the Lowbury Hill Burial Project. The goal of the project was to recreate all of the artifacts discovered during the excavation of the site and in the process, learn about the material culture of the time period (5-7th century Britain) and the people who inhabited the land during the same period. It is currently in its sixth year and close to completion.

Three years ago, I began saving for the final piece of the project. Once I had the requisite funds, I commissioned the piece with a well-known artisan. Approximately a year later it was complete and in the mail. Unfortunately, it never arrived. After six months of inquiries with the carrier, multiple complaints against them, vague and contradictory responses on their part, and a refusal to admit the parcel was lost or stolen, I am without the final item for the project and have lost a sizeable amount of money.

This is why I am asking for help.

Medieval studies have been my passion ever since I was ten and first read Tolkien, the legends of Arthur, and Beowulf. For six years now, I have worked in ceramics, leather, fabric, metal, wood, and words, gradually discovering how the early Medieval people lived, fought, thought, and died. I have loved every minute and continue to learn something new daily. Members of the “Living History” community have been wonderful, sharing their immense knowledge and enthusiasm with me, while also showing enormous patience with my questions and gradual understanding of the period.

If you are able and so inclined, please consider donating to this project so that I can see it to its completion.

Thank you.
